THE Johannesburg Emergency Management Service (EMS) will hand over 50 Jozi safety kits to elderly residents in Cosmo City today at the fire station.

The group of elderly residents forms part of the community emergency response team in Cosmo City.

“They have already been trained in basic firefighting and basic first aid to help them deal with some emergencies before we as professionals arrive on the scene. This is part of our initiative of building resilient communities,” EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said.

He said since the beginning of this month the city’s EMS had handed over safety kits to the Naledi Ash Mountain and Eikenhof informal settlements.

Twelve areas including Ivory Park Extension 2, Zamaimpilo, Naledi Camp, Marlboro and Kliptown are still going to benefit from the programme, he said.
