A friend crashed and broke his el­bow be­fore a big 100-miler one year. There were no re­funds or trans­fers, but he gave me his en­try. So, com­ing from sea level, with min­i­mal fitness, I lined up as Elite­class racer Paul Dopp. It went about as you’d ex­pect.
