The le­git­i­macy cri­sis con­fronting the ANC in KwaZulu-Na­tal has spilled over into di­rect con­flict with the party at na­tional level on whether the court de­ci­sion nul­li­fy­ing the provin­cial lead­er­ship elec­tion should be chal­lenged on ap­peal.

The for­mer deputy higher ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing min­is­ter has been con­victed on three counts of as­sault­ing women who ques­tioned his sex­u­al­ity at a night­club. He has apol­o­gised, but if he is gen­uinely sorry he should re­sign as an MP.
