Attempt on life of Aristide

-

FORMER Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide survived an apparent assassination attempt on Monday when gunmen opened fire on his motorcade, injuring two passers-by.

Aristide was leaving a court in Port-au-Prince, testifying in a money-laundering case against Jean Anthony Nazaire, former commissary of the Haitian national police.

Ira Kurzban, a Miami attorney who represents Aristide, said: “At least two people standing in front of the car were hit. Thank God no one was killed and at least one of the shooting victims was taken to the university medical centre that president Aristide was instrumental in founding.”
