Ipid investigate shooting of Hout Bay boy, 14
THE INDEPENDENT Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating a case of attempted murder after a 14-year-old boy was shot by police during ongoing protests in Hout Bay.
Yesterday Hangberg protesters clashed with police for a third day. Disgruntled residents protested over the decreased allocation of fishing quotas and lack of services in the community.
On Tuesday, Ona Dubula from Imizamo Yethu was allegedly shot by an officer at close range while hiding behind a barricade. He is recovering after surgery to remove a rubber bullet from under his tongue.
“Ipid became aware of the incident as the video footage circulated on social media. The shooting was not reported to the Ipid as required by the Ipid Act,” said Ipid national spokesperson Moses Dlamini.
“Ipid investigators visited the mother of the victim and obtained her statement.”
