Patient’s fatal delivery
A BLIND woman died after a delivery driver mistakenly gave her medication meant for a neighbour with a similar name, a British inquest has heard.
Christina Ann Fletcher, 58, was given 60 morphine tablets intended for Ann Fletcher, an Alzheimer’s patient who lived four doors away.
More than a week later, when the pharmacy that sent the order realised what had happened, police found the former nurse dead at her home in Heywood, near Manchester, with nine of the morphine tablets missing.
Christina Fletcher, who was almost completely blind, was also treated for epilepsy, depression and anxiety.
Delivery driver Andrew Watkins said Christina Fletcher was sometimes unable to sign for her prescriptions. On August 4 last year he had not asked her to sign and had “delivered the wrong prescription by mistake”. The inquest continues. – Daily Mail
