Market gets to the root of a day out

Cape Argus - - Weather & Leisure - Lance Witten

HAVE you ever been at a festival or market and just wished there was more variety? Maybe you’d like to see more crafts, more books, more clothing, more food and drink options?

In that case, the Root 44 Market along the R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West is exactly what you’re looking for. It’s just... well, more. There are scores of food options to choose from – pizza on a board to pizza in a cone, traditional German fare on a roll or on a plate, pit barbecue, sushi, burgers – you name it, they’ve got it. And there are plenty of options to quench your thirst too.

But, perhaps the best part, is the play area for the kids. There are separate areas for under-fives and those a little older; meaning you don’t have to worry about your toddler being knocked over by the bigger kids.

They’re all closely monitored by trained staff. The indoor gyms are well-protected from the harsh sun and wind, while the outdoor area is a real treat.

Foofy slides, a sprawling wooden gym, a five-a-side sand-floored football arena and pedal-powered go-karts are all available to the kids (and the grown-up adult kids too). All this for just R90 per child, all day long. There’s also a mini putt-putt course and ample climbing wall space to ensure your little ones are completely pooped by the time you check out.

Big-screen TVs, beer gardens and live music will keep adults entertained too.
