TANZANIA’S richest man Mohammed Dewji, who is reportedly worth $1.5billion (R22bn), has been kidnapped, police said yesterday.
Dar es Salaam regional police commissioner Paul Makonda said operations were under way to rescue Dewji and arrest the suspects.
The 43-year-old businessman and former member of parliament was kidnapped as he left a hotel gym in the capital, according to unconfirmed media reports.
He owns the METL Group conglomerate, which operates in a wide range of industries including trade, agriculture and financial services among others, according to Forbes magazine. He is Africa’s youngest billionaire. |
