Tell us the truth

- Dennis Bloem Cope spokesperson

THE Minister of Water Affairs must play open cards. Cope is asking her whether she and her department are dictatorially conspiring to hide the truth about hundreds of malfunctioning municipal water treatment plants that are releasing raw sewage into the country’s rivers.

It is imperative for Minister Nomvula Mokonyane to declare publicly whether officials are still free to expose any wrongdoing. Or, are they being constrained?

If she fails to do that we will conclude that she has sealed their lips to conceal the truth.

Minister, are you shielding municipalities that are releasing raw sewage into streams and rivers?

The Mail & Guardian reported that your department recently released a “dashboard” of the results of its water quality monitoring stations.

It found that 98 percent of assessed rivers had high levels of faecal coliform. What action did you take?

Cope challenges Mokonyane to tell us the truth.
