‘Joseph’ clinches 2 Fleur de Caps

THE HIT musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolo­r Dreamcoat won in two categories at the 52nd annual Fleur du Cap Theatre Awardsat the Artscape Opera House at the weekend.

Star actor Jonathan Roxmouth won Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for his outstandin­g portrayal of Pharaoh, a role he is currently performing at Theatre on the Bay. This marks his fourth Fleur du Cap award.

For the same show, Niall Griffin, who has impressed with his designs in shows like I Love you, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, won in the Best Costume Design category.

Throughout his career he has also won Naledi Awards, the Artes Legends Awards and Broadway Stage Award, and was on the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans list for 2016 (arts and culture).

Starring alongside Roxmouth in Joseph are fellow Fleur du Cap Theatre Award nominees Earl Gregory in the title role, and Dean Roberts as Potiphar.

Singer Nadine, last seen in the musical theatre stage as Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar, is the Narrator.

With familiar songs like Go, Go, Go Joseph, Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door To Me and One More Angel In Heaven – Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice`s first mega-hit – has proved to be a firm South African favourite and is loaded with fun, exuberance, colour, music, high energy, humour and dance.
