Ready a Royal Flush
A GREAT deal of attention is given to the possibility of taps running dry sometime early next year.
However, we are given very little information about the sewerage system. Is there sufficient water going through the pipes to keep them clear and will this still be the case if we have to further reduce water consumption?
Is there a plan to cope with sewage if there is no water?
In the 1980s Durban had a severe water shortage and they had the “Royal Flush” at 6pm every day when everyone flushed their toilets to get sufficient water through the system to clear the pipes.
Perhaps we should start doing this now to be sure the pipes remain clear for as long as possible. Margaret Sunter Somerset West
