Driven by values

-

A CANARY yellow Golf filled to the brim made the trek from the Cape Flats on the N2 to the Grand Parade. Jubilant and excited we waited in the scorching sun for our hero Nelson Mandela to arrive.

We eagerly awaited to hear him speak as for most of us it would have been the first time.

Flanked by Cyril Ramaphosa and Allan Boesak, we were mesmerised by our hero. We hanged on to every spoken word. For the first time we had hope, hope for a better future. It was like District Six – coloured, black, white – no division, colour or creed, rich or poor did not matter. We all felt South African.

Sunday’s speech by Cyril Ramaphosa reminded me of that day. It is symbolic of the rise of a new dawn in South Africa. Cyril is a values-driven leader, a unifier with strategic insight and is guided by the interest of South Africa.

The wind of change is sweeping over South Africa and like the Phoenix bird South Africa too will rise from the ashes. Jasmina Gasnolar Cape Town
