HUNGER IM­PACTS ON CHILD GROWTH

BER­LIN: Ger­man de­vel­op­ment and hu­man­i­tar­ian aid or­gan­i­sa­tion Welthunger­hilfe yes­ter­day high­lighted high mal­nu­tri­tion lev­els in sub-Sa­ha­ran Africa and South Asia in its an­nual re­port.

“In both re­gions, lev­els of mal­nu­tri­tion, its im­pact on child growth, the ema­ci­a­tion of chil­dren and child mor­tal­ity rates are un­ac­cept­ably high,” ac­cord­ing to an an­nual re­port re­leased by the group.

The group’s hunger in­dex, an over­all as­sess­ment of mal­nu­tri­tion lev­els around the world, has fallen from 29.2 points since 2000 to 20.9 points this year.
