As part of the Mercedes-benz advance initiative, the Vison Van concept study has been specifically designed to deliver items bought by online shoppers. It is powered by a 75 kw electric motor, has an operating range of up to 270 km and is fully connected, with the information about its contents and location available to the delivery business’ command centre at all times. The Vison Van’s real party trick, however, is the two drones on top of the roof that can deliver packages straight to residences without the owners being home.

“Equipped with an electric-drive system, the Vision Van not only operates locally emissionfree, but it also moves almost silently. This means that it can be operated in cities even during times when there are traffic restrictions, or for late-night deliveries in residential areas,” said Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-benz Vans.

The ability to load in one go with a pre-packed pallet of parcels is another of the concept’s innovations, with parcels packed in the correct order for delivery and the van “knowing” the location of each article when loaded.
