HIRE-CAR PERSONALITY

Car (South Africa) - - MAIL -

Can you please explain what you mean in CAR Guide when you describe some cars, such as the Nissan Almera, as having a “hire-car personality”. It’s a rather unfair description, especially when you don’t ever apply that description to Volkswagens and Toyotas that ll hire-car parking lots more than any other make. I have been a reader and subscriber of CAR since the end of 1959 and I have seen you use that unfair term many times. Could you consider dropping that very subjective description as it is an obvious put-down for anybody considering purchasing any car with that tag? Incidentally, I don’t own an Almera. NEIL BECKER East London [It’s a tongue-in-cheek comment, Neil, but what it alludes to is that, while there are many VWS and Toyotas in hire car eets, there are also many in private hands. That’s less so the case for the Almera – editor.]
