Abolish SA monarchy

CityPress - - Voices - Thabo Thwala Bothaville, Free State

The people of South Africa are being held to ransom by controversial King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo and a few other monarchs who demand millions of rands from the country’s already stretched coffers.

Comments by people such as his spokesperson, Camagwini Matanzima-Madikizela, that “the king was nominated in heaven to be head of the family” should worry every democracy-loving person in the country.

This kind of attitude is relied upon by kings and chiefs the world over, who continue to oppress people while claiming God-given powers.

Kings in this country or elsewhere do not work the land, yet they demand millions to fund their luxurious lifestyles.

Dalindyebo should know that the position he holds is a privilege given to him by the people of South Africa. They can revoke that privilege any time they want since he does not contribute anything to uplifting the economy. The time to abolish monarchies towards building a real people’s economy is now!
