Shame on our municipalities

Once again, the AuditorGeneral has made damning findings against the country’s 278 municipalities.

His report gave 22 of the 278 municipalities a clean audit. This simply means that just 7% of our municipalities’ finances are being managed properly.

It’s quite clear that many of our senior municipal officials are underqualified and out of their depth.

If 93% of our municipalities are not in good financial standing, we are in more trouble than we care to admit.

The downside of the matter is that no one is held accountable for the mess our municipalities find themselves in.

The municipalities are dysfunctional and politicians are playing dumb when communities protest about service delivery.
