The art fair, the first international art fair in Africa, aims to support the growing contemporary arts landscape in Africa. The fair provides a space for leading artists, galleries, collectors, writers, thinkers and art lovers to meet.

Art Week, an initiative started in Cape Town, involves more than 50 galleries, arts venues and events all around the city. From Alexandra and Soweto to Maboneng and Newtown, it’s all about increasing the visibility of, and strengthening, the visual arts industry in cities throughout South Africa.

Joburg Fringe is independently coordinated and includes a wider selection of artists who may be on the periphery of the mainstream art circuit and not aligned to commercial galleries.

Here, you will find those in the “underground” who have not broken into formal gallery spaces. Wednesday to Sunday marks the biggest week for art in Johannesburg. From the illustrious FNB Joburg Art Fair in Sandton and the exPansive Art Week Joburg, to Joburg Fringe – which takes art to the streets – there is something
