Moretele Park Trib­ute Con­cert Satur­day, Au­gust 30 Moretele Park, Mamelodi, Pre­to­ria Gates open at 9am Tick­ets R300 at com­puticket.com The town­ship of Mamelodi will come to a stand­still for a starstud­ded line-up as Mafik­i­zolo, Mi Casa, Lira, Thomas Chauke, Bhu­daza, Jonas Gwangwa, Johnny Clegg, Don Laka, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Ringo, Letta Mbulu and Zonke hit the stage.

This an­nual event has be­come a mu­si­cal pil­grim­age for fes­ti­val­go­ers over the past 17 years. This year, the or­gan­is­ers say there will be plenty to cel­e­brate as the coun­try marks 20 years of democ­racy.

Fes­ti­val­go­ers are en­cour­aged to ar­rive early so that they don’t miss their favourite artists.

Ac­ces­si­ble to the peo­ple of Mamelodi and sur­round­ing ar­eas, the fes­ti­val plans to not only demon­strate the power of South African mu­sic, but pro­vide tem­po­rary em­ploy­ment for the lo­cal com­mu­nity and in­flu­ence lo­cal tourism. As part of the fes­ti­val’s aim to em­power and help young mu­sos achieve their full po­ten­tial and un­der­stand the busi­ness of mu­sic, there will be free am­a­teur mu­si­cian work­shops be­fore the con­cert.

Th­ese trib­ute con­cert work­shops, hosted by Drak­ens­berg Pro­mo­tions, will cover ev­ery­thing from per­sonal man­age­ment and re­spon­si­bil­ity to record­ing, per­form­ing and pub­lish­ing.
