Heritage Day is the celebration of our diversity and our unity. South Africans across the length and breadth of the country speak their own languages. South Africa today is different from many African countries because its citizens can speak, read and write their own languages.

Language is the carrier of culture, and cultural identity is important to the identity of a society.

As we celebrate, we must emulate active citizenship, which will be the change that people want to see in their communities.

South Africans must be fully in charge of preserving their culture and history.

A nation without a past is a lost nation and people without a past are a people without a soul.
