In­deed, it is al­leged the US played a di­rect role in cre­at­ing the Is­lamic State to serve its geopo­lit­i­cal in­ter­ests. But the com­plic­ity and hypocrisy of Western pow­ers in the par­lous state of global af­fairs seems no longer to con­tain or qual­ify out­right Mus­lim con­dem­na­tion of atroc­i­ties be­ing com­mit­ted in the name of Is­lam.

I sus­pect the con­text of loud con­dem­na­tion by Mus­lims of Is­rael’s atroc­i­ties in Gaza is mak­ing this need for the equal con­dem­na­tion of atroc­i­ties com­mit­ted in the name of Is­lam.

I am not wholly de­fined by a re­li­gious iden­tity, but the pro­found im­pact on my cul­tural be­ing by the hor­rors be­ing com­mit­ted by the Is­lamic State in the name of Is­lam rep­re­sents deep re­volt – much deeper than a mere voice. This, I want the world to know.
