Ebola, coming soon to a TV near you

CityPress - - News -

It seems as if the deaths of thousands of Africans is perfect material for a TV series. US sci-fi director Ridley Scott and established producer Lynda Obst think so. They are creating a series about the Ebola virus. Scott is known for classic films such as Alien and Prometheus. The series has been two decades in the making and is based on writer Richard Preston’s article for The New Yorker, which traces the history of Ebola, starting with outbreaks in the 1970s and 1990s. The show will look at the origins of the virus and the recent outbreak in west Africa that has killed more than 4 665 people. “I think it’s the speed at which it kills that makes the disease so frightening,” said Obst. “People hoped it would stay in some remote part of the world. But that’s a fantasy in the modern world. The modern world makes us one big connected family.”
