Women rule third Mbokodo Awards
Women were the heroes of the hour at Kyalami’s Theatre on the Track on Friday night as musicians, poets and a first lady gathered for the Mbokodo Women in the Arts Awards.
This was the third instalment of the awards, which are staged by Carol Bouwer Productions and celebrate women’s contribution to the arts in South Africa.
Radio star Anele Mdoda was the MC for the night. Among the hugely talented guests were the legendary Mahotella Queens, who were honoured with the Miriam Makeba Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mafikizolo’s Nhlanhla Nciza won in the women in music category and looked gorgeous in a bright-blue dress, while Florence Masebe won in the women in film category.
Poet Lebo Mashile, media professional Shado Twala, actress and vice-chairperson of People Opposing Women Abuse Rosie Motene and First Lady Bongi Ngema-Zuma, who has supported the awards since their inception, were also at the event.
