After tak­ing a while to get the ma­chin­ery run­ning, African Union (AU) Com­mis­sion chair­per­son Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has launched a very pub­lic Ebola-fight­ing ef­fort. On ar­rival in Sierra Leone on Fri­day, she avoided greet­ing the lo­cal lead­ers the usual way – with a hand­shake – be­cause in th­ese parts this ges­ture can spread the deadly virus. But min­utes after tweet­ing de­tails of the sol­i­dar­ity no-hand­shake, the AU tweeted that those fight­ing the virus will be “hand-in-hand to over­come it”. Here’s hop­ing that metaphors aren’t lethal.
