Hot & Not

CityPress - - Voices -

Not all of us can deliver bad news in a way that makes it sound positive, or proactive and certain. Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene did it this week. He said we were going to pay more tax and told his colleagues in government their belts would be tightened. And no one seemed that angry. This was probably because his speech was not hot potatoes; it was just plain hot. “Doesn’t it just blow your mind,” CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour asked a guest, “to see a township black judge handing down a sentence?” What is a “township black judge”, Ms Amanpour, and why would Judge Thokozile Masipa’s calm, capable handling of the Oscar Pistorius trial blow anyone’s mind? She’s just doing her job.
