Abducted newborn reunited with mum
A baby boy who was snatched from Cape Town’s Groote Schuur Hospital on Thursday has been found “unharmed and in good health”, police have said.
The infant was just 12 days old when he was taken from a cot next to his mother’s bed at the hospital. The abduction was discovered when a nurse woke the mother at about 3am on Thursday and asked where her baby was.
The police’s Captain FC van Wyk said a 24-year-old woman was arrested on Friday night after investigations led detectives to the Enkanini informal settlement in Harare, Khayelitsha.
“The baby was found unharmed and is in good health,” said Van Wyk.
The little boy and his mother were reunited soon after he was found and examined on Friday night, according to Van Wyk.
“The circumstances leading up to this criminal act are still under investigation.”
The 24-year-old woman is set to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court tomorrow on a charge of kidnapping.
