Tariq Aziz dies in Iraq

Tariq Aziz, who was the face of Sad­dam Hus­sein’s regime on the world stage for many years, died in an Iraqi hos­pi­tal on Fri­day.

Aziz (79), who served as Sad­dam’s for­eign min­is­ter and deputy prime min­is­ter, was taken to hos­pi­tal from pri­son af­ter suf­fer­ing a heart attack. He was sen­tenced to death by Iraq’s Supreme Court in 2010 for the per­se­cu­tion of re­li­gious par­ties un­der Sad­dam’s rule.
