Art meets activism

CityPress - - T# -

Artist and activist Wangechi Mutu has rallied the art world to support her drive to change the world’s perceptions about Africa. She takes a stand against gender inequality, and champions the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people. The Kenyanborn artist launched Africa’s Out! in a bid to “change the way we all engage with Africa and, more specifically, the way in which Africans reach out to empower one another”.

Africa’s Out! is also a multidimensional programme that includes art exhibitions, events, performances and discussions about queer individuals on the continent. – Siyabonga Sithole
