The two-tap travel app

Local travel website Travelstart has created an app to make booking flights on South Africa’s busiest route – Joburg to Cape Town – much easier.

The iStore and Android app, called Flapp, is a mini flight app that has been dubbed the two-tap booking app. It allows commuters between the cities to find their flights quickly and easily. They can do this on their cellphones without filtering out other destinations.

Sergio Mello, head of innovation at Flapp’s parent company, Travelstart, says: “It’s completely secure and makes the checkout process astonishingly fast.”

But is there a need for it? The Jozi-CT route is one the busiest commuter skyways in the world. Airports Company SA recorded 4.2 million passengers flying between the cities last year.

Just more than 40% of travellers booked their flights less than a week before departure using their credit cards, two things Flapp allows for, which means the company could be tapping into a lucrative market. – Gugulethu Mhlungu Flapp is available to download for free from Google Play
