hey’re all grown up! That was the overwhelming sentiment this week as Malia and Sasha Obama accompanied their mother, Michelle, on a European trip to promote education for girls.
The First Daughters of the US, aged 14 and 16, respectively, were the focus of attention as they touched down in the UK on Monday, wearing stylish and elegant shift dresses.
UK newspapers were quick to call attention to their maturity, saying how they had changed from “awkward teens to smart young style queens”. They remembered that the last time the two were on UK soil they had favoured “hoodies and shapeless jumpers”.
“As they were on their holidays at the time, the girls seemed less interested in making fashion statements as they were with trawling idyllic Irish sights. But today the wardrobe transformation in just two years was evident as Malia and Sasha made their way to Number 10 to meet Prime Minister David Cameron (48), and 44-year-old wife Samantha Cameron at Downing Street ... Striding behind each other, poised and confident, Malia (16) and Sasha Obama (14) seem to be the epitome of wellbrought-up young ladies. Cutting elegant figures in vibrant attire, the first daughters of the United States have certainly blossomed since their last visit to the UK in 2013,” gushed the UK tabloid, the Daily Mail.
Their height was also remarked upon as both are almost as tall as their 1.8m mother.
Obama and her daughters are on a weeklong tour of Britain and Italy to promote her Let Girls Learn initiative.
In Italy, Malia and Sasha were also the focus of attention as they did some shopping and visited art galleries.
They later visited the Milan Cathedral on Thursday with their mother where they lit candles in memory of the victims of the church shooting in South Carolina.
