Power FM celebrated its second birthday at a low-key event at the radio station’s offices in Houghton in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

Attended by some Power FM staff and listeners who called themselves “emotional stakeholders”, the event was a simple breakfast at which guests were well fed while they waited for proceedings to get under way.

Having arrived at the stipulated time of 8am, proceedings only started at 9.30am, when Power FM chairperson Given Mkhari went live on air, joking before doing so that: “I’ve finally cracked getting on air on Power!”

He said the station’s journey had been “affirming, inspiring and reassuring”.

The event was attended by new programming manager Lance Rothschild, managing director and Power Business host Andile Khumalo, as well as hosts Masechaba Lekalake, Jeremy Maggs and Lawrence Tlhabane.
