Professional golfer from Soweto Musiwalo Nethunzwi is determined to remain the only man to so far lift the Soweto Golf Cup when it tees off for the third time at the Soweto Country Club on August 13.

Nethunzwi, a club member, raised his profile by winning the inaugural event in 2013 at the venue after carding an impressive 206 in 54 holes.

Last year, he repeated his winning streak by scoring 208 after four days – leaving fellow competitors overwhelmed with his impressive strokes.

“I have trained hard for the event and am prepared to make a second successful defence on the trot.

“I have been working hard on my swing and fairway shots. Everything has fallen into place,” said Nethunzwi.

The three-day event – also known as the Soweto Festival of Golf – is sanctioned by the Professional Golfers’ Association.

It will feature a field of 30 Gautengbased professional and amateur players.

The Pro-Am event that will take place on the second day will provide a rare opportunity for corporate executives to partner with seasoned campaigners for a round of golf.

Other top players on the Sunshine Tour include Michael du Toit, Kenneth Dube and Thabang Simon.

The final day will culminate in an afterparty celebration, which is a special event for guests to experience and enjoy Soweto’s vibrant culture at the township’s clubhouse.
