True De­tec­tive is back

You might have heard about Mzansi Magic’s new show, Date My Fam­ily, af­ter Twit­ter got into a tizz over re­cent con­tes­tant Stan­ley Ramoboleng.

The show fol­lows a bach­e­lor or bach­e­lorette as he/she vis­its three fam­i­lies for a meal in a bid to find the most com­pat­i­ble mate.

Ramoboleng, a small-time ac­tor, True De­tec­tive M-Net Edge (DStv chan­nel 102) Thurs­day, 9pm Fans of True De­tec­tive, a gritty, of­ten dark, se­ries, will be happy to know sea­son two is about to hit the small screen.

There’s an all-new cast. Vince Vaughn and Colin Far­rell will re­place Matthew McConaughey and Woody Har­rel­son as co-leads, and hurled such in­sults as “Judg­ing by the way the fam­ily looks, I am wor­ried about what the daugh­ter looks like” and told the sis­ter of his po­ten­tial love in­ter­est: “You call your­self a woman? Is this how you cook?” Judg­ing from the furore the show has caused, this is one to watch. Like Mzansi Magic’s other suc­cess, My Per­fect Wed­ding, it uses a great for­mula for com­pelling re­al­ity TV. – Grethe Koen Rachel McA­dams will join as a fel­low de­tec­tive.

We hope this sea­son will pose the same ex­is­ten­tial ques­tions as sea­son one and delve into the dark­ness of the hu­man heart. It man­aged to dwell in our minds long af­ter the cred­its on the fi­nal episode had rolled.
