Trophy) Chelsea will be looking for a strong showing as they prepare to defend their top-flight crown next term and have some challenging matches lined up for July, most notably against FC Barcelona and Paris SaintGermain in the International Champions Cup, where they could also meet Real Madrid or AS Roma in the latter stages of the friendly tournament.

The Blues will also raise the curtain on the new season in the Community Shield a week before the opening round of Premier League fixtures, and will face FA Cup winners and London rivals Arsenal.

Prior to that, the Gunners will duke it out in the Barclays Asia Cup, starting off with a clash against a Singapore 11 in mid-July before facing Everton or Stoke. Arsène Wenger’s men will then return to England for the Emirates Cup, where they will face Lyon and Wolfsburg before taking on Chelsea at Wembley.

Meanwhile, 2014/15 Premier League runners-up Manchester City are set for a relatively quiet preseason in terms of their friendly fixtures, with only ties against Roma and Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup in Australia lined up for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who will be desperate to put their trophyless campaign behind them and look forward to a revived challenge.

At Manchester United, Louis van Gaal will be looking to fine-tune his squad as they prepare for a return to Champions League football thanks to their fourth-place finish last season. The Red Devils, like rivals City, will also be in the International Champions Cup – in North America – but have scheduled twice as many games, starting against Club América and San Jose Earthquakes before taking on Barcelona and Paris SaintGermain.

Liverpool will be hoping for a muchimproved showing in 2015/16 after managing a measly sixth-place finish last season, and have scheduled more friendly matches than any of their big rivals, with the Reds kicking off their preseason workout against Thai Premier League All Stars before matches in Australia against Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United, followed by a clash with a Malaysia 11 and a final match against HJK Helsinki.

Tottenham have some telling fixtures lined up, against Real Madrid and Bayern Munich or AC Milan in the Audi Cup, while Southampton will be preoccupied with their Europa League qualifying campaign, where they start in the third round at the end of July.

Premier League newcomers Watford are not looking to get too ahead of themselves and will face AFC Wimbledon, Eintracht Braunschweig and Paderborn, while fellow promotees Norwich play no fewer than five friendly matches between July and August.

Back in the big time are AFC Bournemouth, who have a quintet of fixtures lined up, including ties against Philadelphia Union, Exeter City and Nantes.
