Robot kills man at Volkswagen plant
Human error is thought to be behind the death of a contractor who was killed by a materials-handling robot at a Volkswagen production plant in Germany.
A company spokesperson said the 22year-old man was working with a team installing the stationary robot when the machine grabbed him and crushed him against a metal plate. He was severely injured and later passed away in hospital.
Another contractor working alongside the man was unharmed.
The robot involved in the incident is used to perform various assembly tasks and works in a confined area of the plant.
The company added: “We are carrying out a full investigation.”
German news agency DPA reported that prosecutors were considering whether to bring charges and, if so, against whom.
