Nigeria and SA take it away at Africa music awards
Nigeria ruled the MTV Africa Music Awards (Mamas) yesterday, with Nigerian artists scooping seven awards including Best Female, Best Group, and the inaugural Evolution prizes.
Africa’s most populous nation was reconfirmed as the continent’s cultural capital at a star-studded ceremony at the Durban International Convention Centre. The country swept the boards, with Yemi Alade named Best Female, Davido Best Male and P-Square winning Best Group and Artist of the Decade. Best New Act went to Patoranking while D’Banj was awarded the first Evolution award. American actor Anthony Anderson emceed. South Africa also had a good night.
