Nige­ria and SA take it away at Africa mu­sic awards

Nige­ria ruled the MTV Africa Mu­sic Awards (Ma­mas) yesterday, with Nige­rian artists scoop­ing seven awards in­clud­ing Best Fe­male, Best Group, and the inau­gu­ral Evo­lu­tion prizes.

Africa’s most pop­u­lous na­tion was re­con­firmed as the con­ti­nent’s cul­tural cap­i­tal at a star-stud­ded cer­e­mony at the Dur­ban In­ter­na­tional Con­ven­tion Cen­tre. The coun­try swept the boards, with Yemi Alade named Best Fe­male, Davido Best Male and P-Square win­ning Best Group and Artist of the Decade. Best New Act went to Pa­torank­ing while D’Banj was awarded the first Evo­lu­tion award. Amer­i­can ac­tor An­thony An­der­son em­ceed. South Africa also had a good night.
