HBO’s latest show, Ballers, stars Dwayne “The Rock” John­son as Spencer Strasmore, a re­tired football star who’s now try­ing to make a name for him­self at a fi­nan­cial man­age­ment firm. Strasmore draws on his Na­tional Football League (NFL) friends to build the com­pany’s port­fo­lio It’s Com­pli­cated Mzansi Magic (DStv chan­nel 161) Fri­day, 7.30pm Mzansi Magic’s latest show, It’s Com­pli­cated, fol­lows the lives of eight Jozi char­ac­ters who have to deal with life’s chal­lenges while they are busy mak­ing other plans. They must de­cide be­tween love and mar­riage, fam­ily and friend­ship, and build­ing a ca­reer.

Per­fec­tion­ist Ipe­leng is ques­tion­ing her seven-year re­la­tion­ship with Mr Nice Guy of high-pro­file clients. What’s al­lur­ing about Ballers is its abil­ity to play out all the off-sea­son ex­cite­ment you would usu­ally catch on TMZ and other news sto­ries about the NFL’s in­ter­nal and player pol­i­tics. Un­for­tu­nately, the fe­male char­ac­ters are noth­ing more than eye candy, but those who can stom­ach it will en­joy the glitz and glam­our of this se­ries. – Them­bisile Dzonzi
