Fans relieved as Minaj and Swift shake off their Twitter feud
Celebrity spats leave fans with no choice but to pick sides, but what do you do when the people who started the fight smoke the peace pipe?
Well, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have kissed and made up after their heated Twitter war about “slim bodies”.
Minaj told Good Morning America on Friday that all was well between the two entertainers. She said Swift had apologised and they had ironed out the issue.
“We spoke for a long time. We were cracking up laughing on the phone. It’s over, you guys,” Minaj said.
The public spat, which saw fans rallying behind their favourite stars, was sparked when Minaj vented on Twitter about the MTV Video Music Award nominations. Minaj expressed frustration that her song Anaconda was not nominated for some of the show’s top awards. Anaconda was nominated for Best Female Video and Best HipHop Video, but not for Video of the Year.
She took to Twitter: “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”
Taylor thought Minaj was taking a swipe at her because her Bad Blood video, which features slim women clad in military apparel, was one of those nominated for Video of the Year. Swift responded: “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.” Minaj tweeted back: “Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.” Two days after the “twar” began, Swift tweeted: “I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I’m sorry, Nicki.”
It’s all water under the bridge now. Minaj and Swift have gone back to being friends. Minaj told Good Morning America that everyone makes mistakes. She commended Taylor for taking the initiative to say sorry.
“It takes a big person to do what Taylor did. Everyone sometimes speaks out of turn. I’ve been there,” Minaj said.
