SA comics do it Just For Laughs

When you’re on the same bill as comedy legends such as Dave Chapelle, Wanda Sykes and Sir Patrick Stewart, it’s probably a sign that you’ve made it. Well, two of South Africa’s brightest new comics have made it – and were due to perform at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal, Canada, over the weekend.

Conrad Koch, the mind behind the wildly popular Chester Missing, and funnyman Jason Goliath formed part of the International Showcase programme, which runs within the broader festival.

“This is really cool. I’ve been working on building my concept and it’s always important to test it out on new audiences,” Koch said to #Trending, just moments before jetting off to Canada.

The Daily Show host Trevor Noah is probably the most recognisable South African comedian, but the inclusion of Koch and Goliath suggests that other local comedians are also being noticed.

“For the longest time because of our politics we were cut off from the international circuit, so this is an awesome opportunity to make those international connections,” explained Koch.

Koch and Goliath will be joined by Francesco de Carlo from Italy and Alex O’Dogherty from Spain. – Binwe Adebayo
