Digging it!

E.tv’s most famous faces gathered at the exclusive rooftop venue Bullion in Braamfontein on Thursday night for the launch of the much-anticipated telenovela Gold Diggers, which will be taking over the 8pm slot from August 10.

Guests were welcomed and asked to wear either a mining overall or a mining helmet. Others were brave enough to rock the full attire.

A variety of puff pastries was ushered around the room while the famous mingled.

An open bar kept spirits high throughout the night. The rooftop had a black-and-gold theme, and the dimmed lights gave the feel of an underground mine – perhaps a glimpse of what to expect from this telenovela, which tells the story of a mine worker, and his struggles with life’s challenges and temptations.

The series will star Tina Jaxa, Mbongeni Ngema, rapper Zulu Boy, Clementine Mosimane and David Johnson.

Emcee for the night was poet and playwright Napo Masheane.

The event was scheduled to start at 6pm, but was delayed until 8pm. Fashionably late? I think not.

The performers for the night were pole dancers, who entertained guests by showing off their flexibility.

Zulu Boy, who rapped alongside a band, was electrifying – the highlight of the night was his performance with fellow cast member Mbongeni Ngema.

Some of the more famous faces spotted at the event were actors from other popular e.tv series.

They included Scandal cast members Mapaseka Koetle and Fulu Mugovhani, and Rhythm City actors Jamie Barlett and Dumisani Masilela.

Also in attendance were Umlilo cast member Hamilton Dlamini, and Ashes to Ashes actors Nambitha Mpumlwana and Chumani Pan.
