Kelly Osbourne puts her foot in it
British and US TV personality Kelly Osbourne is facing a backlash after she spoke before thinking on US talk show The View.
Her comment this week about Hispanic immigrants in the US cleaning toilets did not go down well.
The reality TV star, fashion commentator and daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne was roundly slammed when she criticised property tycoon and Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s proposed immigration policies.
“If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilet, Donald Trump?” Britain’s Independent newspaper quoted her as saying.
Realising that she put her foot in it, she then tried to defend herself, telling other panellists on the programme: “In the sense that … you know what I mean? But I’m saying that in LA, they always … No, I didn’t mean it like that! Come on! I would never mean it like that! I’m not part of this argument.”
Shortly afterwards, Osbourne tried to fix things by releasing a statement, in which she admitted that she “wholeheartedly fu**ed up” and regretted her “poor choice of words”. But the statement didn’t work as well as she had hoped, and many took to Twitter to mock her comments, the Independent reported.
Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player Enrique Hernández led the barrage of sarcastic tweets, writing: “Heading to the stadium early so that I can clean the toilets in the clubhouse! Right? @KellyOsbourne.”
Twitter user Melissa Libertad also weighed in, tweeting: “Hey @KellyOsbourne, I guess my UCLA degree means nothing, & I will just have to clean toilets since that’s what all Latinos do. *rolls eyes*.”
