Plan to ‘kill off Piers Morgan’
British TV personality and axed CNN talk show host Piers Morgan says TV producers wanted to “kill him off” in a publicity stunt to see if the nation would care.
Britain’s Independent newspaper reported that one proposal to kill off the annoying columnist was to lower him into a tank in the ocean off the South African coast and video him being ripped to pieces by sharks.
The whole idea was to fake his death and see if anyone would mourn him.
“A few years ago, someone wanted me to take part in a reality show where I would be filmed recording my own fake death and they would record the national outpouring of grief,” he reportedly said. “They said: ‘Obviously some people in your family would have to know it wasn’t real – maybe your mother.’”
Morgan, for his part, didn’t expect Britain to be plunged into mourning should he meet a grizzly fate.
“I told them: ‘I don’t think you’ll be seeing Princess Diana-like scenes if I die.’ It was an independent company that had approached Channel Four, which was very keen on the idea. It was going to be called Piers Morgan is Dead.”
There were other ideas too, he reportedly said.
