Lack of Spring­bok tri­als al­lows the sit­u­a­tion to pre­vail. So there’s no pool of play­ers be­ing de­vel­oped to cover each po­si­tion in the squad. Also, pro­vin­cial loy­al­ties and think­ing dom­i­nate. With­out a doubt, the pol­icy makes me an­gry. Meyer has been pick­ing guys who haven’t played rugby for a long time, based on one good sea­son or a cou­ple of re­ally good Su­per 15 games. We have the tal­ent, but if we want to put the con­tro­versy over se­lec­tion to bed for good, we need to have Spring­bok tri­als and a proper se­lec­tion panel. Tri­als will un­earth the best play­ers for each po­si­tion and com­bi­na­tions which would oth­er­wise re­main undis­cov­ered. I’ll sup­port the Spring­boks, but imag­ine when our squad con­sists of the best play­ers and the best com­bi­na­tions...
