The miniseries at its best

CityPress - - T# -

This six-part miniseries based on the 2007 award-winning novel by Canadian Lawrence Hill tells the story of Aminata Diallo, a woman abducted as a child and forcefully brought to South Carolina from west Africa to work as a slave. The show has received much acclaim, with one film critic saying: “The Book of Negroes is easily one of the best things to happen to television in quite some time.” Although apparently violent and hard to watch at times, much like 12 Years a Slave, the miniseries provides an unflinching look at one of the darkest periods in human history. – Grethe Koen
