Jovovich wraps up Resident Evil
Hollywood actress Milla Jovovich and her family are ready to pack their bags after spending five months in Cape Town making the latest instalment of Resident Evil.
Jovovich, her husband, the film’s director, Paul WS Anderson, and their two young daughters stayed in a villa overlooking the Atlantic seaboard.
Their eldest daughter, Ever Gabo, turned eight earlier this month and celebrated her birthday dressed in a pink mermaid suit on the film set.
Jovovich posted a photograph of the birthday girl on Instagram: “We gave her the day off school to come and celebrate on set with us, where she was a stunning mermaid all day! Here she is with her little sissy Dashiel.”
Dashiel Edan is now seven months old, and was a regular sight on her mum’s slim hip between takes.
Jovovich (39) became a pop-culture icon after starring in the 1997 French science fiction film The Fifth Element.
In Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, the sixth instalment of the franchise, she will reprise her role as heroine Alice who – yet again – saves humanity from certain demise.
The Resident Evil franchise is the highest-grossing series based on a video game – it has earned $915 million (R13 billion) at box offices around the world.
South African company Moonlighting facilitated the local production of the film, which is set for release in January 2017.
In Cape Town, several scenes were shot at night in eery pine-forest locations around Table Mountain. Filming is expected to officially wrap on December 12, but some of the film’s cast members have already left the country.
English actor James Fraser is back home in London.
“Missing my Resident Evil family and Cape Town like crazy,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Resident Evil will go down as one of the best experiences of my life, but as is the life of an artist, we have to move on.”
Between shoots, the cast had fun exploring the city.
Fraser enjoyed dinner at popular local restaurant Nelson’s Eye in central Cape Town, where he desribed his steak as “the best ever”. Last month, he experienced his first helicopter ride.
“I’ve never done this before. Jumped in a helicopter for a ride over Cape Town. Huge thanks to Howard (our pilot) for a super smooth flight and for breaking my cherry,” he wrote.
James and his co-star, Australian actress Ruby Rose, who is best known for her role in the TV series Orange Is the New Black, posted several selfies taken around Cape Town.
