5The programme has embarked on innovative prevention work through Taking Risks Wisely, which deals with all risk-taking behaviours – not just gambling – and provides a text-based teachers’ manual with lesson plans and interactive exercises, as well as a full webbased backup, including a comprehensive Handbook of Responsible Gambling.
This has been piloted and implemented as part of the life skills curriculum at schools. Material for grades 10 to 12 has been completed and piloted, and will be implemented early next year. RESEARCH: Academics at universities here and abroad focus on understanding the nature, causes and prevalence of problem gambling to facilitate the development of good public policy and enhance prevention and treatment strategies.
