Ten years of Black Cof­fee

The year 2015 marks a decade of award-win­ning DJ Black Cof­fee’s ca­reer in the mu­sic in­dus­try.

This achieve­ment was cel­e­brated on Mon­day night at one of Jo­han­nes­burg’s finest venues and bars, Thir­teen, lo­cated in hip­ster-cen­tral Braam­fontein.

The trendy event was at­tended by spon­sors and some busi­ness­peo­ple. Fa­mous faces spot­ted in­cluded Vuzu En­ter­tain­ment pre­sen­ter Denise Zimba, house DJ Shimza, mu­si­cian Nakhane Toure, hip-hop DJ Switch and Black Cof­fee’s gor­geous wife, Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa.

The venue was set up to show im­ages of key mo­ments in Black Cof­fee’s ca­reer, with por­traits, prized items and LCD screens re­flect­ing his jour­ney.

Black Cof­fee – real name Nkosi­nathi Ma­phu­mulo – re­vealed that Red Bull would be launch­ing a lim­ited edi­tion hero can bear­ing a pho­to­graph of, you guessed it, his face. The can was launched on Tues­day, along with a song.

The col­lab­o­ra­tion is fit­ting as the DJ recorded his first al­bum at Red Bull Stu­dios.

Re­flect­ing on his 10-year ca­reer, Black Cof­fee paid trib­ute to his wife.

“The last five years have been with this amaz­ing woman here,” he said, adding that she had played a vi­tal role in help­ing him suc­ceed.
