Where did SA tourists travel to this year?
Despite the attacks in Paris and everchanging overseas visa regulations, South Africans are travelling more than ever, according to Russell Jarvis from Travelstart.co.za, one of South Africa’s biggest travel-booking companies. He shared some insights on where South Africans like to go. Destination of the year: London, UK
You’d better believe it, London is still SA’s most visited destination, topping the numbers in terms of flights booked.
Up-and-comer: Mumbai, India Airport trends:
Checking in baggage is becoming a thing of the past as more and more people take what they need in carry-on bags. Local airline companies such as FlySafair also offer discounted prices if you don’t check in a bag. People are tired of losing their luggage or having to wait for it at the carousel. Taxi services:
Goodbye phoning ahead and hello Uber. The trend has taken South Africa by storm and is now the most convenient way to get around. There are concerns that the appbased transport service is creating an unhealthy monopoly, but it seems it’s so convenient that South Africans just can’t stop using it. Online accommodation:
Sites such as Airbnb and SafariNow are becoming more popular when it comes to finding affordable holiday accommodation. As internet access improves in South Africa, more of us are ditching phone calls and doing our bookings online. – Grethe Koen
