Who’s on their way to Durbs?
Some of the biggest names in music gathered at The Forum in Bryanston on Thursday night for the announcement of the nominees for this year’s Metro FM Music Awards. Artists including rapper Cassper Nyovest, DJ Slique, producer Anatii and singer Kelly Khumalo, the latter in a vibrant orange strapless dress, waited in anticipation to find out if they were nominees in the awards’ 15th instalment.
Metro FM put on a show as guests were treated to performances by singer Zahara and platinumselling artist Nathi Mankayi, popularly known as Nathi, while DJ duo Sphectacula and Naves had everyone dancing the night away.
Singer Nathi received five nominations – in the categories of Best African Pop Album, Best R&B Single, Best New Artist, Best Male Album and Song of the Year.
Metro FM’s Kings of the Weekend, DJ Sphectacula and DJ Naves, received nominations in the categories of Best Group/Duo Album, Best Collaboration, Best New Artist, Best Music Video and Song of the Year.
New talents to emerge in 2015 were hip-hop artist Emtee and rapper Fifi Cooper, who made it on to the male-dominated Best Hip Hop Album category.
The awards will take place for the fourth consecutive year at the Durban ICC Arena in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, February 27.
The award winners will each receive a cash prize of R100 000, along with a silver trophy.
