Who’s on their way to Durbs?

Some of the big­gest names in mu­sic gath­ered at The Fo­rum in Bryanston on Thurs­day night for the an­nounce­ment of the nom­i­nees for this year’s Metro FM Mu­sic Awards. Artists in­clud­ing rap­per Cassper Ny­ovest, DJ Slique, pro­ducer Anatii and singer Kelly Khu­malo, the lat­ter in a vi­brant or­ange strap­less dress, waited in an­tic­i­pa­tion to find out if they were nom­i­nees in the awards’ 15th in­stal­ment.

Metro FM put on a show as guests were treated to per­for­mances by singer Za­hara and plat­inum­selling artist Nathi Mankayi, pop­u­larly known as Nathi, while DJ duo Sphec­tac­ula and Naves had ev­ery­one danc­ing the night away.

Singer Nathi re­ceived five nom­i­na­tions – in the cat­e­gories of Best African Pop Al­bum, Best R&B Sin­gle, Best New Artist, Best Male Al­bum and Song of the Year.

Metro FM’s Kings of the Week­end, DJ Sphec­tac­ula and DJ Naves, re­ceived nom­i­na­tions in the cat­e­gories of Best Group/Duo Al­bum, Best Col­lab­o­ra­tion, Best New Artist, Best Mu­sic Video and Song of the Year.

New tal­ents to emerge in 2015 were hip-hop artist Em­tee and rap­per Fifi Cooper, who made it on to the male-dom­i­nated Best Hip Hop Al­bum cat­e­gory.

The awards will take place for the fourth con­sec­u­tive year at the Dur­ban ICC Arena in KwaZulu-Natal on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 27.

The award win­ners will each re­ceive a cash prize of R100 000, along with a sil­ver tro­phy.
