Don’t forget the Guareezy!

Farieda Metsileng’s Where Da Guareezy? short video was a huge hit over the festive season and, since then, more and more people have discovered her brand of humour. #Trending chatted to South Africa’s freshest social-media star. HOW DID YOU START MAKING THESE VIDEOS?

I started making and posting videos to Instagram last year. It was purely for fun at first. As a performer, it was just something I enjoyed doing. I would just think of something that randomly came to mind, or stuff I’ve seen around. WHERE DID THE IDEAS FOR THE DIFFERENT CHARACTERS COME FROM?

I think I was just portraying people you always encounter. My most popular character, who I call Ntabiseng, is one of those people you always see around. Everyone knows someone like her. She’s overly confident. She is that girl you can’t tell anything. I love the fact that she has no boundaries and is very ambitious. I took a ghetto approach with her because it is quite relatable for me and those around me. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE POPULAR GUAREEZY VIDEO?
